About this event

Originally founded in Finland, Open Dialogue is a person-centred, recovery-orientated and family-inclusive approach to mental health care. The approach operates on the core humanistic values of openness, social inclusion, personal autonomy and genuine user and family inclusion in care provision.

We welcome anyone interested in learning more about Open Dialogue - family members, carers, peers, family therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, general practitioners, and others.

Presented by Professor Niels Buus and Dr Campbell Thorpe

Our expert trainers will provide an introduction to the core theoretical principles of Open Dialogue.

Niels is Professor of Nursing at Monash University, a mental health nurse and specialist in qualitative research and qualitative research methodology with a keen interest in the adoption, implementation, and practices of Open Dialogue and similar systemic approaches to psychotherapies.

Campbell is a child and adolescent psychiatrist, Head of Clinical Services headspace Early Psychosis Program, consultant psychiatrist at Victorian Centre of Excellence in Eating Disorders, and supervisor in family therapy at Mindful Centre for Training and Research in Developmental Health, University of Melbourne.
